The Wizards: City of Wonders
It is said that the City was of old a center of wisdom and knowledge before the coming of the Plague. Scholars from all across the Ancient World would journey thousands of miles to study at its universities and marvel at its wonders. With the Plague, however, came terror and war, and the Goblins. Countless lives were lost in the ensuing battles as Kaegil was razed and the citizens fled their homes. Yet hope endured. A Council was formed of the wisest wizards of the old city, united by a desire to preserve the wisdom and knowledge of their age. These last remnants of the Ancients used what powers were granted them to drive the Goblins from the surrounding area and save their people. But despite their victory, Kaegil was utterly devastated by the fighting. Warlords tore at each others' armies in pointless wars, bandits preyed upon innocent travelers everywhere, fires raged in once beautiful forests, and wolves howled in abandoned nurseries. It was then that the High Council determined to endure against this tide of chaos and despair, declared their quarter of Kaegil and the people within to be a new city independent of the chaotic realms about them, a City of Wonders and a place of learning, an island of peace in the midst of a churning sea of bloodshed and war. Their magic was unmatched, for already the warlords had forgotten the ways of old, and for a hundred years the City endured siege and war, until at last came peace.

The City is laid out in a grid pattern within a circular wall of magical stone. Within the wall is set four gates facing North, South, East and West, guarded with both knight and magic but open to all who would enter in peace. At each gate are checkpoints and great statues representing the leaders of realms that make peace with the City. Within the walls, the shining towers reach far into the sky, surpassing even clouds and seemingly made of crystal. All manner of strange magic is seen in the markets, where humans, halflings, dwarves and wizards alike trade enchanted goods and wares. At the heart of the City is the Tower of Knowledge and the Chambers of Wisdom, where the High Council meets and students of wizardry from all over the surrounding area come to learn magic. Here also is the Great Library, where one can peruse the many works of the Ancients from centuries past to present time.
